Tijjani Reijnders has explained his decision to move to Saudi Arabia, saying the financial security offered by the deal will benefit not only him but future generations of his family.
The Netherlands international made the move after leaving Manchester City, with his decision to continue his career in Saudi Arabia attracting attention because of the financial opportunities associated with the league.
Reijnders was open about the financial motivation behind the transfer, saying the contract gives him the opportunity to secure his family’s future long after his playing career comes to an end.
“It’s money for generations of my family,” Reijnders said.
The midfielder explained that his ambition is to reach a point where he will not need to work after retiring from professional football.
“Once my playing career is over, I don’t want to have to work anymore,” he said.
Reijnders acknowledged that his Manchester City contract would already have provided him with significant financial security, but believes his move to Saudi Arabia offers an opportunity to go even further.
“Of course, I probably wouldn’t have needed to work anymore after my contract at Manchester City either, but this move allows me to secure the future of the next generations of my family,” he added.
The 27-year-old made it clear that he was not trying to hide the financial considerations behind his decision.
“I’m not going to lie about that,” he said.
According to Reijnders, the long-term benefits of the contract were too significant to ignore, particularly with the prospect of providing financial security for his children and grandchildren.
“By signing this contract, I can make sure even my grandchildren are financially secure, so why wouldn’t I do it?” he added.
