The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has successfully managed two separate fire-related incidents in the Eastern Region, preventing a possible fuel disaster at Osubetor and containing a domestic fire at Larteh Akuapem.
The first incident occurred at Osubetor in Tinkong, where a MAN fuel tanker carrying about 54,000 litres of petrol became immobilised on the Osubetor Bridge.
The incident was reportedly caused by a suspected mechanical fault.
Firefighters, together with personnel from the Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), quickly secured the area and assessed the tanker.
The GNFS said no fuel leakage or contamination was detected at the scene. There was also no fire outbreak, reducing the risk of a potentially serious fuel-related disaster.
As a precaution, firefighters applied cooling measures to the tanker while ensuring that the area remained safe.
The timely intervention helped prevent the situation from escalating and allowed the authorities to manage the tanker safely.
Meanwhile, firefighters also responded to a domestic fire at Mission Quarters in Larteh Akuapem.
The fire involved a single room. However, residents had already managed to extinguish the blaze with water before the arrival of the GNFS crew.
Firefighters assessed the affected room, helped salvage some belongings and secured the area to prevent further danger.
Some items, including clothes and a blanket, were destroyed in the fire.
Fortunately, no casualties were recorded in the Larteh incident.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, while the estimated cost of damage is also yet to be determined.
