The Ghana National Petroleum Tanker Drivers Union has threatened to embark on a sit-down strike over the poor condition of the road from the Valco Roundabout through the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to Kpone.
The union says the deteriorating road has made it difficult for tanker drivers to operate, despite the route serving several major industrial facilities and being crucial to the transportation of petroleum products.
Chairman of the union, George Nyawunu, said the road serves more than eight loading depots, including Sentuo, as well as several warehouses.
According to him, the road project was first awarded in 2008 but was abandoned. It was later re-awarded in 2023 under the previous government, but work has been inconsistent.
Mr Nyawunu said attempts by the union to engage the Ministers for Roads and Highways and Energy over the situation had so far yielded no positive response.
He said the union would therefore lay down its tools on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, if authorities fail to address their concerns.
The union has directed all tanker drivers to park their vehicles on the day of the planned action until steps are taken to fix the road.
