Ghana’s Black Queens continued their preparations for the 2026 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a 0-0 draw against Tanzania in an international friendly played in Casablanca, Morocco, on Monday.
The encounter formed part of the team’s final build-up to the continental tournament and gave head coach Kim Lars Björkegren another opportunity to assess his squad before Ghana begins its WAFCON campaign.
The Black Queens produced an encouraging performance, dominating possession for most of the match and creating several scoring opportunities.
Despite controlling large periods of the game, Ghana was unable to convert its chances, with Tanzania’s defence standing firm throughout the contest.
From the opening whistle, the Black Queens looked confident on the ball, moving it quickly across the pitch and applying pressure on the Tanzanian backline.
The team displayed good attacking intent and linked up well in midfield, but the final touch in front of goal proved elusive.
After the break, Coach Björkegren introduced a number of substitutions as he continued to evaluate different player combinations and tactical options ahead of the tournament.
The changes maintained Ghana’s attacking momentum, with the team continuing to search for the opening goal.
Tanzania, however, remained organised defensively and frustrated the Black Queens with disciplined defending and timely interventions.
Despite Ghana’s sustained pressure in the closing stages, neither side managed to break the deadlock, and the match ended without a goal.

Although the result did not produce a victory, the friendly served its purpose by allowing the technical team to fine-tune tactics, improve match fitness and assess the readiness of the players before the start of the competition.
The Black Queens will take several positives from the performance, particularly their control of possession and ability to create chances.
However, converting those opportunities into goals will remain an important area of focus as they prepare to face some of Africa’s strongest women’s national teams.
