Although authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the accident, eyewitnesses claimed the collision occurred after one of the vehicles allegedly attempted to overtake another, resulting in a head-on crash.

The impact of the collision left the vehicles badly damaged, trapping a number of passengers in the wreckage.

Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, and other emergency agencies worked together to rescue survivors and recover victims from the mangled vehicles.

The accident caused heavy traffic congestion along the busy Kumasi-Accra Highway as rescue and recovery operations continued.

Motorists were advised to exercise caution and cooperate with security personnel managing traffic around the crash site.

The latest tragedy has once again raised concerns about road safety on one of Ghana’s busiest highways, where fatal crashes are frequently recorded.

Road safety advocates have consistently called for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations, particularly against dangerous overtaking and excessive speeding, which remain among the leading causes of road accidents in the country.

In a separate but related incident, another road crash was reported shortly afterwards at Dadieso, also near Konongo, adding to concerns over the safety of motorists using the highway.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Police Service and other relevant authorities had not officially confirmed the number of deaths or released details on the circumstances surrounding either accident.

Investigations are expected to establish the exact cause of the crashes.

The identities of the victims are yet to be made public, while families are expected to be notified as authorities continue their rescue and recovery efforts.
