A day-old baby girl has been discovered abandoned on a plantain farm in Offinso Awisam, located in the Ashanti Region.
Residents reported that the baby was found on Tuesday, July 7 morning in a field behind a house.
In an interview monitored by The Ghana Report with OTEC NEWS, an eyewitness said that the baby was located by a woman who subsequently informed the local police about the situation.
“Now authorities in the area have taken over investigating the matter, however they are yet to find out who the mother is,” one resident stated.
He remarked that they suspect the baby was left by someone from outside the community.
“There was a funeral here which brought hundreds of mourners, and we suspect the mother was among them,” he added.
Residents have urged authorities and child protection agencies to ensure the baby is safeguarded and cared for while investigations are ongoing.
