Tema Circuit Court remands narcotics suspect into custody

The Tema Circuit Court has remanded a suspected narcotics dealer into police custody to assist ongoing investigations into alleged drug-related activities.

The accused, whose name has been withheld by authorities, is believed to have been arrested during an intelligence-led operation by security agencies in Tema and its surrounding communities.

According to prosecutors, the suspect was picked up after a coordinated surveillance exercise that led officers to a location where a quantity of suspected narcotic substances was allegedly discovered.

During court proceedings, the prosecution told the court that investigations are still underway and requested that the suspect be remanded to allow police to complete further inquiries, including forensic testing of the seized substances and tracking possible accomplices.

The court, presided over by a Circuit Court judge in Tema, granted the prosecution’s request and ordered that the suspect be held in police custody for a specified period pending the next hearing date.

Authorities say the arrest forms part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking and distribution networks in the Greater Accra Region, where security agencies have intensified operations in recent months.

The suspect is expected to reappear before the court after police conclude their investigations and file a full report on the case.

Security officials have reiterated their commitment to combating narcotics-related crimes, warning that anyone found involved in the illicit drug trade will be prosecuted under the law.
