Residents of Plau, a suburb of Somanya, have been left in shock and confusion after the body of a 34-year-old woman was discovered at her family home under circumstances police describe as suspicious.

The deceased, identified as Ama Kwaku Oyo, was found unresponsive on Monday, February 3, 2026. Information available indicates that earlier that evening, she had visited her boyfriend, identified as Tetteh Bi.

The two were said to have spent some time together and even prepared fufu, though sources say the woman did not eat the meal.

According to a source at the Ghana Police Service, the woman later went into a room at the boyfriend’s residence.

When he checked on her sometime later, she was reportedly lying motionless.

The source added that she was known in the area to drink heavily, though this detail has not been linked to the cause of death.

Instead of reporting the matter immediately, police say the boyfriend allegedly placed the body in a tricycle, locally known as a pragya, and transported it to the woman’s family house at Plau.

A neighbour later alerted the police around 10:00 p.m., reporting that a body had been dropped at the residence.

Officers from the Somanya District Police Command swiftly responded and transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body has since been deposited at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital and is expected to be transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra for autopsy.
