Manchester City condemns racist abuse after Everton clash

Manchester City has strongly condemned racist abuse aimed at Antoine Semenyo following their Premier League match against Everton.

In an official statement released after the game, City described the abuse as unacceptable and backed the quick response from Everton and the police, who have already identified the individual responsible, a 70 years old man who have been banned from stadium after his racist attack on Semenyo.

The incident is said to have occurred during City’s hard-fought 3-3 draw with Everton, where Semenyo played a key role and attracted attention for his energetic performance.

Semenyo, who has been one of the standout players in recent matches, was reportedly targeted with racist remarks from the stands after a tense moment in the game.

His influence on the pitch, including his involvement in City’s attacking play, may have made him a target for frustration from some Everton supporters, but the club has made it clear that such behaviour will never be tolerated.

The statement also highlighted a separate incident involving Marc Guéhi, who was subjected to a wave of racist abuse on social media. Guéhi, a defender known for his calm presence, has previously spoken about the impact of online abuse on players.

Manchester City reiterated its support for both players, stressing the importance of unity in football and the need to completely remove discrimination from the sport. The club emphasised that football should be a space for respect, diversity, and inclusion.
