The Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service has arrested 68 people suspected of engaging in cybercriminal activities, while more than 800 electronic devices associated with online fraud and other unlawful actions have been confiscated, as reported by the Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak.
During the launch of the 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month, as well as the inauguration of the Joint Cyber Security Committee, the Minister indicated that this development reflects the current administration’s dedication to combating online crime.
“Our cybercrime units successfully arrested 68 suspected cybercriminals, identified 108 victims, and seized over 885 electronic devices linked to illicit activities,” he said.
“This remarkable achievement underscores the unwavering commitment of the Government of Ghana to safeguarding our digital space, protecting our citizens and contributing to the global fight against cybercrime,” he remarked.
In a related development, President John Dramani Mahama affirmed that Ghana will persist in extraditing individuals implicated in romance scams to foreign jurisdictions for prosecution.
While addressing attendees at the event, themed “Building a Safe, Informed, and Accountable Digital Space,” the President reiterated Ghana’s commitment to ongoing collaboration with international partners, such as the FBI, in addressing perpetrators of romance scams and fraud.
“Recently, we have been collaborating with our international partners on romance scams, and when evidence is gathered and it is proven that people are involved in romance scams, using our extradition treaties, we ship the culprits back.
“We will continue to collaborate with all our global partners, anybody involved in romance scam whether you’re a foreigner or you’re a Ghanaian citizen, we will hand you over to be trialed and punished accordingly,” he said.
