MTN announces planned MoMo interruption on August 17

MTN Ghana is urging its millions of Mobile Money (MoMo) users to prepare for a scheduled six-hour service interruption on Sunday, August 17, 2025, as the company conducts a critical system upgrade.

The planned maintenance will take place from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., during which all Mobile Money services will be temporarily unavailable.

This includes deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and merchant payments.

Given the widespread reliance on MoMo in Ghana for personal transactions, business payments, and financial services.

MTN is advising users to complete all essential transactions ahead of the downtime to avoid disruption.

In a statement, Charles Asamoah Assah, Chief Technology & Service Delivery Officer of Mobile Money Limited, explained the purpose of the upgrade.

“This scheduled upgrade is aimed at enhancing service quality. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank our customers for their understanding and continued trust.”

MTN noted that past upgrades have led to significant improvements in transaction speed, security against fraud, and platform reliability, benefits that this upgrade is also expected to deliver.

The company has reassured customers that all funds will remain safe and that services will resume immediately after the upgrade window ends.

MTN encourages users to plan accordingly and avoid last-minute issues during the temporary downtime.
