Unity Cup: Nigeria had a “More Matured” team- Otto Addo on Ghana’s defeat
Head coach of Ghana’s National Men’s Football Team, Otto Addo, stated that his team’s recent loss to Nigeria was partly due to Nigeria fielding a more “mature” team than Ghana.
He made this remark during a post-game press conference following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Nigeria at the G-Tech Community Stadium in England on Wednesday, May 28, in the 2025 Unity Cup.
Following this victory, Nigeria advanced to the final of the four-nation tournament, where they will face Jamaica, who defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-2 in the other fixture.
In his post-game comments, Otto Addo acknowledged that the Black Stars performed better in the second half than in the first. He attributed Nigeria’s victory to their team’s greater maturity.
“Like I said, it’s not always easy especially when we have players that haven’t often together. I think Nigeria had a more matured team who could adapt faster and we had problems getting into the duels to press well but also to defend well” Otto Addo said about his much changed team.

Ghana was missing several key players for the match, including Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, and Alexander Djiku, due to various reasons.
