Education Minister unveils new 12-member GES Council

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, on Friday inaugurated a new 12-member council for the Ghana Education Service (GES), tasked with providing strategic leadership and oversight for the country’s pre-tertiary education sector.

Chaired by Professor Mawutor Avoke, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), the council brings together key figures from across Ghana’s education landscape.

Members include:

  • Dr. Rosemond Wilson (West African Examinations Council – WAEC)

  • Professor Azeko Tahiru Salifu (National Schools Inspectorate Authority – NASIA)

  • Mr. Adam Adu Marshall (National Teaching Council – NTC)

  • Professor Yayra Dzakadzie (National Council for Curriculum and Assessment – NaCCA)

  • Rt. Rev. Paa Solomon Grant-Essilfie (Rotational Teacher Association Representative)

  • Mrs. Mamle D. Andrews (Chief Director, Ministry of Education)

  • Mrs. Felicia Dapaah Agyeman-Boakye (Local Government Representative)

  • A Representative from Faith-Based Organisations

  • Adamu Bintu Fati (GES Non-Teaching Staff Representative)

  • Florence Bobi (Female Educationist)

  • Professor Ernest Kofi Davis (Director-General, GES)

According to a statement from the Ministry of Education, the formation of the council signals a renewed commitment to educational reform, inclusivity, and collaboration among key stakeholders.

The council is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the GES’s capacity to deliver quality education and implement effective policies across the pre-tertiary sector.
