A devastating fire has ravaged the Kwadaso Wood Market in Kumasi in the Ashanti region for the second time in two weeks.
The fire which broke out on Sunday, January 19, destroyed several properties further worsening the plight of the traders who were still recovering from the previous outbreak.
According to eyewitnesses, the blaze engulfed shops and wooden stalls at the main sawmill and burnt equipment, along with logs of wood valued at thousands of cedis.
Attempts by the traders to douse the fire failed due to its intensity.
No casualties were recorded.
Meanwhile, the cause of this recent fire is yet to be known.
The blaze, suspected to have been triggered by an electrical fault in the main sawmill section, spread rapidly and ignited an explosion in the nearby ECG Power Supply chamber.
Despite the swift response by traders and neighbours, who rushed to the scene to offer assistance, the fire proved uncontrollable.
Their efforts were hindered by the market’s poor accessibility, which slowed their response.
Although they managed to secure the inner business arena, the fire ravaged the main sawmill, destroying major plants, equipment, and thousands of cedis worth of wood.
