The community of Antwirifo in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region has been thrown into shock after a father killed his six-year-old son and was subsequently shot dead during a clash with an immigration officer.
The deceased Emmanuel Atta, a 36-year-old farmer and returnee from Libya, allegedly murdered his son, Jonathan Adu Jack, in a violent outburst.
The incident unfolded when Emmanuel asked his wife, Stella, to prepare rice for him.
While Stella sent for rice, Emmanuel went and borrowed cooking oil from a neighbour.
Upon his return to where Stella was cooking, his behaviour turned erratic.
He began breaking the cooking pot as the food was being prepared, prompting Stella to flee with their four children.
Emmanuel reportedly pursued the family and, in a fit of rage, fatally attacked Jonathan with a machete.
After the gruesome act, Emmanuel fled and hid within the community.
Efforts to apprehend him escalated when an immigration officer attempted to force him out of his hiding place.
Emmanuel attacked the officer, leading to a struggle during which the officer’s firearm discharged, fatally wounding Emmanuel in the head.
Both bodies have been transported to the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital mortuary as police continue their investigations into the tragic events.
