The pending results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) are likely to be released before the end of 2024, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr Eric Nkansah, has revealed.
His assurance follows the disbursement of GH¢25 million as part of GH¢118 million debt owed to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to facilitate the release of the results.
In an interview, Dr. Nkansah revealed that WAEC had already contacted the Ministry of Education regarding the results.
“We are sure the results will be released possibly before the year ends,” he stated.
Earlier, the Director of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi, revealed that the significant debt of GH₵118 million is the cause for the delay in releasing the 2024 WASSCE results.
Mr. Kapi said, “We intended by now to be processing the results because, as we mentioned earlier, the marking of the scripts for both the theory and practical aspects is complete.”
He also clarified that the only remaining component is the objective section, which requires specialised machines.
“We thought that by the 19th of this month, all things being equal, we could release the results before the office closes for the Christmas break,” he explained.
The fate of over 460,611 WASSCE School Candidates (SC) hangs in the balance as WAEC has not been able to release their results due to the pending debt.
