One dead as commercial vehicle bursts into flames on Akatsi-Dzodze highway
One person has been confirmed dead, and others injured in an accident at Tadzewu Torkpokope on the Akatsi-Dzodze road in the Volta Region.
The Sprinter bus, with registration number ER 849- 19, was burnt to ashes.
According to eyewitnesses, a back tyre of the bus, which was travelling from Accra to Dzodze, burst, causing it to somersault several times.
This led to several passengers sustaining various injuries, and a female passenger died on the spot.
Meanwhile, the driver, who exited unscathed, explained that there were 10 passengers in the vehicle.
The injured were rushed to the St. Anthony Hospital at Dzodze for further medical attention.
Police officers from Dzodze also transported the body of the deceased to the St. Anthony Hospital morgue for autopsy.
This comes after a Yutong bus with registration number GT-5190-17 burst into flames on June 8, 2023, at Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipal Assembly of the Greater Accra Region.
The bus, full of passengers, was travelling from Tarkwa to Accra.
There were no deaths recorded.
However, two passengers sustained injuries while the bus burnt into ashes.
