Gyakie beats Angelique Kidjo, others to wins ‘Best West African Artiste of the Year’
Ghana’s songbird, Gyakie has been named the ‘Best West African Artiste of the Year” at this year’s Headies Award.
The awards show which was held at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, Georgia, USA had Burna Boy win as African artist of the year and best male artiste.
Many renowned musicians were awarded and when it came to the Best West African Artiste of the Year, it was Gyakie who was adjudged the winner.
She was in the same category as Amaarae, Angelique Kidjo, Aya Nakamura, KiDi, and Nelson Freitas to win the prestigious award.
In 2019, Gyakie released her first single titled; “Love is Pretty” which paved way for another single, “Never Like This.”
In August 2020, the “Forever” song from her five-track EP, titled “Seed” was her claim to fame enjoying airplay and leading charts in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria. Gyakie’s father is Nana Acheampong.
Some of the songs she has released so far include Love is Pretty, Never Like This, Sor Mi Mu feat Bisa Kdei, Forever Remix feat Omah Lay, Vacation, Whine, Follow You Fiokee, Chike & Gyakie, and Something.
