A 25-year-old tailor apprentice alleged to have killed a 22-year-old level 200 student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been remanded by the Kuntenase District Court.
The accused, Emmanuel Boateng, is to reappear on 9 May 2022.
His plea was not taken when he appeared before the court presided over by Francis Anam Asakiya on Monday.
Emmanuel is said to have confessed to killing Kwaku Adu Gyamfi to avoid paying a debt of ¢100.
According to the police, on Friday, April 22, Nana Gyamfi visited Emmanuel in his house at Esaso-Kwablafo near Esereso, and the two later went out, but the deceased did not return home until his dead body was discovered in the bush.
Emmanuel told the police he lured the deceased to the bush and murdered him.
He also stole an iPhone 11 Pro Max phone from the deceased, which has been retrieved by the police.
Police inspection of the body revealed a swollen neck and “blood oozing from the nostrils”.
A stick suspected to have been used to hit the deceased was also found about 20 meters away from the body.
The prosecutor handling the case, DSP Eric Akwaboah, who doubles as the Kuntenase District Police Commander, spoke to journalists after the court proceedings.
DSP Akwaboah explained that the police were still conducting further investigations and thus the need to keep the accused in police custody.
The body of Nana Gyamfi has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s father said his son and the suspect were close friends and were often together anytime Kwaku returned home from campus.
Because of that, they could not believe that the suspect would bludgeon their son to death in cold blood.
What was more shocking was that the suspect joined the search party to look for Kwaku after the mother complained that his son had gone missing.
This was after he had allegedly committed the heinous crime earlier that day.
