Eight family members, including a pastor, have been arraigned before a court in Bolgatanga following the brutal killing of two elderly women at Sumaduri-Tempane in the Upper East Region over allegations of witchcraft.
The accused persons are said to be relatives of the deceased woman and were allegedly influenced by claims made after consulting a pastor, who reportedly confirmed that the victims were witches responsible for misfortunes within the family.
Acting on this belief, the family allegedly mobilised and attacked the two women, leading to their deaths.
Following the incident, the bodies of the deceased were recovered, and police launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of the eight suspects.
They were subsequently arraigned before the court, where they are expected to face charges relating to murder and conspiracy.
Witchcraft accusations continue to fuel violence against vulnerable people, particularly elderly women, in some parts of the country.
The court has adjourned the case to a later date as investigations continue.
