Six shops have been reduced to ashes after a fire outbreak at the Race Course market in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
The fire, which started around 9:00 pm on Monday, December 16, consumed perishable goods, including watermelons, grapes, and apples, and destroyed two cold storage facilities.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) dispatched three fire engines to battle the flames and prevent them from spreading to other structures in the market.
According to the affected traders, they could not salvage a single item from the six shops, leaving them without a livelihood.
The devasted traders estimated their losses at a staggering GH₵5 million.
