Two persons have sustained various degrees of injuries following a clash between two youth groups at Tamale in the Northern region.

According to sources, a gun battle ensued between the groups over a dispute over a piece of land in the Nothern regional capital.

The dispute began on the night of Monday, January 27, when one of the groups claimed ownership of the land, destroying its barrier and some materials.

However, on Tuesday morning, the other faction confronted them, leading to the exchange of gunfire.

An eyewitness who spoke to the media alleged that the said land belonged to an influential figure in Tamale.

“It was about 8 pm last night when some group came and said the land was for Samba so they are ceasing it. But someone told them it belonged to their brother. But instead of them moving away, they destroyed the cordon. We left, not knowing they slept in the market watching over the land.

“This morning, another group came and said they will not allow them on the land, because it belongs to their brother leading to the clash. When it happened, they started shooting. Two people were hit by bullets, and the third guy was hiding behind a vehicle when it accidentally ran over him,” the eyewitness narrated in an interview with JoyNews.

Meanwhile, the incident has been reported to the Northern Regional Police for investigation.
