217 new coronavirus cases push Ghana’s tally to 6,486
Ghana has recorded 217 new infections of the deadly coronavirus in one day resulting in a total of 6,486 cases as of Friday, May 22.
The number of people who have defeated the virus to recover fully has also climbed up to 1,951, but 31 patients have perished.

This was announced in the latest update by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on its COVID-19 website.
The infection is taking a toll on people providing healthcare as 20 doctors and nurses test positive for the contagion. Earlier, some 30 health professionals in the Ashanti Region had also contracted the disease.
The Greater Accra leads the number of cases with 4,699 with the Savannah Region, Ahafo Region and Bono East Region recording no cases.

Regional case count is as follows: Ashanti Region – 988; Central Region – 287; Western Region – 195; Eastern Region – 106; Western North Region – 57; Volta Region – 44; Northern Region – 34; Oti Region – 26; Upper East Region – 26; Upper West Region – 21; North East Region – 2 and Bono Region – 1
Male infections make up a chunk of the carriers, taking 61% while females make up 39%.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has revealed that Magascar’s alleged herbal cure, Covid-Organics, would undergo testing protocols in the country by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and Centre for Plant Medicine before any considerations to adopt or otherwise.
