A 17-year-old student has been remanded to police custody by an Adentan court over a suspected street robbery.
He was put before the court on charges of conspiracy and robbery.
According to the prosecuting officer, Maxwell Lanyo, the minor is an alleged member of a notorious armed robbery gang that has been terrorising the residents of Adentan and its environs.
He told the court that on May 5, 2023, the accused and his accomplice, Odame Boakye, also known as OD, robbed a woman of her handbag, which contained an iPhone 7 Plus valued at GHC2,800 and GHC2,000 cash at Adenta using an unregistered motorbike at knifepoint.
Mr Lanyo said the victim reported the case to the police, who arrested the minor through the intelligence gathered.
However, his accomplice, Boakye, absconded and left behind his motorbike after the victim and his fiancé identified and confronted him.
The victim’s fiancé decided to send the motorbike to the police station. While he pushed it, Boakye pursued him with a jack-knife without his knowledge.
Aziz Salifu, a passer-by, who spotted Boakye and ran to stop him, was stabbed in the left arm.
The prosecution added that during the investigations, Boakye’s mother sent an iPhone 7 Plus to the police station, saying she found it in her son’s room.
Meanwhile, the court presided over by Sedinam Awo Balokah has ordered the police to ascertain the age of the minor through a medical examination.
The case has been adjourned to June 5, 2023, while the police continue the search for Boakye.
