The Central North Regional Police Command has arrested 100 residents of Assin Wurakese in connection with the recent attack on a patient at the Akoti Health Centre.

Briefing the media, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, said the arrests followed extensive intelligence gathering, which revealed that the incident was a coordinated mob action involving several members of the community.

Based on this information, police deployed about 85 officers to Assin Wurakese to carry out a targeted operation aimed at identifying both direct and indirect participants in the attack.

DCOP Acquaye explained that all 100 suspects will undergo a detailed screening process. Those found to have played a role in the incident will be arraigned before court, while individuals cleared of wrongdoing will be released.

He said evidence suggests that while some suspects took part in the attack, others failed to intervene, aided or abetted the perpetrators, or harboured suspects without reporting them to the police.

The commander noted that the swoop followed earlier arrests linked to the case. He confirmed that a community police officer and Yaw Buabeng, who was previously a victim of a mob attack and also a suspect in a related matter, had been arrested, arraigned, and remanded into police custody. Both are expected to reappear in court on February 5, 2026.

DCOP Acquaye also confirmed the arrest of Daniel Ababio, who was seen in a viral video allegedly assaulting Yaw Buabeng with a pair of scissors at the Akoti Health Centre.

He cautioned the public against recording incidents of assault or violence instead of intervening or alerting the police, stressing that such behaviour is unlawful.

The Regional Commander assured the public that the Police Command will act independently and professionally, adding that the law will be enforced without fear or favour, regardless of political, traditional, or social influence.
