One person is reported dead after a Kia Rhino truck crashed with a tipper truck at Gomoa Dominase Junction in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
Also, two others sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to the hospital.
The accident occurred on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, around 4:30 PM.
According to an eyewitness, the Kia Rhino, loaded with chicken faeces, was coming from Gomoa Dominase and was about to join the Kasoa – Cape Coast Highway, but upon reaching the junction, the engine failed.
After fixing the problem, the driver failed to observe what was happening ahead but quickly drove to join the highway.
As a result, the Kia Rhino collided with the tipper truck killing the driver’s mate instantly and leaving two others in critical condition.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Winneba Special and Trauma Hospital morgue, and the injured persons are receiving treatment at the same facility.
Meanwhile, the police at Gomoa Dominase have commenced an investigation into the accident.
Road accidents in the country
The country is not only losing its human capital to accident-related deaths but productive lives are being rendered disabled due to severe injuries.
More than 200 people die monthly in road accidents in Ghana, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has said.
The latest figure was for the period between January 1, 2022, and August 31, 2022, which accounted for 1,600 deaths.
This represents a 16% decrease compared to the same period in 2021, which recorded 1,800 deaths.
