Lee Addy calls for higher player salaries in Ghana’s local league

Former Ghana defender Lee Addy has called on football authorities to increase player salaries in the local league.

Despite acknowledging that the league is performing well, Addy expressed concern over the treatment and management of players, citing low wages as a major issue.

In an interview on the Ernest Bruce Smith Show on YouTube, Addy highlighted the exodus of players from the local league to other African leagues due to higher salaries. He stated that the local league is Ghana’s equivalent of Barcelona or Real Madrid and that players should be compensated accordingly.

Addy also pointed out that other African countries, such as Cameroon, have implemented rules to improve player standards and wages, and that Ghana should follow suit.

“Local league they are doing well but my problem is our guys how are we managing them how are we treating them? this is our Barcelona this is our Real Madrid someone can play in the Zambian league and be successful they play people 5000, 10,000 dollars. Ghana a football nation that will meet Zambian team and try to beat them how much do we pay our players,” he said.

“Samuel Eto’o went to Cameroon he has set rules there someone will come and continue and our time what are we doing if my junior brother is playing in the local league and you give him 2 million or 5 million a month if he gets Tanzanian and he is told he will be given 500 dollars I will allow him to go. They should try to lift the player’s standard or wages some it will make the players remain in Ghana,” he added.
