‘Zoomlion must pay back GH¢184m’ – Backed by the court, Domelevo renews his bark
Waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, is compelled to pay a surcharge of GHC 184million imposed on the firm, Auditor General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has stated.
This follows an Accra High Court ruling today in favour of the AG after Zoomlion filed an appeal against a notice of surcharge issued by the AG.
The firm was found to have taken monies for some work that were not executed according to expectations in relation to multiple fumigation contracts from different state agencies and the assemblies.
Responding to the ruling in an interview with Joy TV, Mr Domelevo said the payment was unlawful hence the cancellation and request for Zoomlion to refund the monies.
“We may have to take the next step after talking to my lawyers and see what to do to retrieve the money,” he said. “He has to pay that money back to government”.
‘Fraudulent’ Zoomlion loses appeal against Auditor General on GHc184 million fumigation payments
An investigation by The Ghana Report’s Manasseh Azure Awuni, who was then with Joy TV, in 2017 lead to the discovery of the substandard operations of Zoomlion. The defence by Zoomlion that the payments were legitimate was rejected by the courts.
AG provided proof which included Mr Awuni’s ‘Robbing the Assemblies’ documentary to justify the wrongful payments.
The contract between Zoomlion and the Health Ministry commenced in 2009 and lasted for about a decade.
