Ernest Yaw Brogya Genfi, a contender in the just-ended National Youth Organizer election of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), has warned that issues that characterised the party’s National Youth Organizer election could cause division in the party if not resolved immediately.
His comment follows a lawsuit he slapped on the NDC and his contender, who was crowned the winner, George Opare Addo.
Others who suffered the lawsuit include the NDC Planning Committee Chairman, Alex Segbefia, the NDC Acting Director of Elections, Daniel Amartey and the Electoral Commission (EC).
According to him, the issues must be resolved now to ensure the needed unity and cohesion in the party to enable the NDC to wrest power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election.
“The Eastern Regional Youth election has been annulled; why? Because the Regional Youth Organizer is my supporter. Because he’s from the home region of the National Youth Organizer and he’s not supporting him, he’s gone to court to annul the election. That can also breed division, and so that must be looked at. So it’s not just about the action I have taken,” Mr Genfi said on Starr News.
He added: “I would love to have an opportunity with the former President(Mahama) for an extensive discussion on the way forward for the party.”
Yaw Brogya Genfi lost to incumbent George Opare Addo by a 25-vote margin and has since refused to concede defeat citing irregularities.
The defeated National Youth Organiser prayed the High Court at Amasaman to restrain the party and the EC from swearing in George Opare Addo as the National Youth Organiser and for holding himself as such.
However, the NDC at its National Delegates Congress over the weekend defied a court injunction secured by Brogya Genfi and swore in George Opare Addo as its Youth Organiser.
