In 2020, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) will introduce a new job creation initiative called the Artisan Directorate.
This initiative is expected to increase the enrolment of the agency from the current 91,420 to 130,000 by the end of 2020.
The Finance Minister announced this YEA new initiative in the 2020 budget statement on Wednesday, November 13.
This initiative will follow a year in which the Agency launched “The Job Centre”, an online platform aimed at linking potential employers and employees.
Also in his statement, the Finance Minister said the Job Centre will be connected to the Ghana Labour Market Information System to make it more effective.
About the Artisan Directory
The Artisan Directory will focus on promoting artisans and marketing their craft and skills.
The directory will be an online platform where individuals can request services from the comfort of their homes.
It will also serve as an active database of artisans with basic information such as company details, services, location and other relevant data.
Initial skills development under this initiative is estimated to cost around GHc 40 million.
About the YEA
The YEA started as the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) with the core mandate of tackling youth unemployment.
The agency was established under the Youth Employment Act 2015 (Act 887) to assist the youth between the ages of 15 to 35 years through skills training and internship schemes.
