Yaw Sarpong Refutes Romance Allegations With Bandmate

Legendary gospel musician, Yaw Sarpong has debunked rumours that he is in an amorous relationship with bandmate, Maame Tiwaa.

“Tiwa is not my wife. I picked Tiwaa because of her talent and we’ve been working since 1981,” Sarpong said in a recent interview.

Yaw Sarpong and Maame Tiwaa are members of an indigenous Ghanaian gospel music group, Asomafo(messengers).

Explaining what might have triggered the rumours, the ‘Oku yi’ singer attributed it to their strong working relationship.

“Her {Maame Tiwaa} first child stayed with me and my wife even before we started performing together,”

‘A lot of people keep asking how we have been able to work together for that long. My wife knows Tiwaa and the people who know this can testify that Tiwa is not my wife. These speculations became rife when our popularity kept expanding” he told JoyNews

The two have worked together for 39 years on the Asomafo band and have released songs including ‘Oko Yi’, ‘Waye Awie’, ‘Yen Kakyere Agya Se’ and ‘Wo Haw Ne Sen’.
