Yahaya Mohammed speaks on why he terminated foreign deal

Aduana Stars striker, Yahaya Mohammed says he regrets his decision to terminate his contract with French Ligue 1 side, OGC Nice.

Yahaya joined the French side in the 2007/2008 season on loan from Tema Youth, but could not extend his stay with the club.

In an interview monitored by theghanareport.com, Yahaya said he is yet to come to terms with why he turned down the offer to renew his contract despite the club’s interest in him.

“When I went to Nice, I sustained an injury so in that period management of the club started contract extension talks with me, but I told them to wait.

“So they called Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer and Fabian Piloto from both Ghana and Monaco to inform them that I have decided not to sign, but I didn’t know the reason why I decided not to sign,” he disclosed on Accra-based Zylofon FM.

“Palmer and Mr Kyeremeh called me and because of that I switched my phones off, but at the time I realised I’m in Ghana, I asked myself what I am doing here. In fact, I never know what I was doing then until I came back to Ghana and realised that I have terminated my contract,” he added.

“I didn’t know why I decided not to sign, so I told them to give me all my money because I will not play the team again. Truth to be told, I didn’t know why I took that decision, but I think I did a great mistake at the time.”

“I went for prayers and got to know that I am under a spell, so from there I learnt a lot of things. One thing about me is that I have never used black magic in my career,” he concluded.

Yahaya is among a few players in football to have switched to various positions on the field, starting off his career as a defender, became a striker and also featured as a midfielder when he first joined Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Before the cancellation of the 2019/2020 league due to the coronavirus outbreak, he was the league’s top scorer with 11 goals after 15 matches.

Yahaya is expected to finalise his loan switch to AshGold SC in the coming days as the club looks to strengthen its team for its Africa Confederation Cup campaign.
