World Cup 2022: Kojo Bonsu calls for criticism of Andre Ayew for penalty miss to stop
Former football administrator Kojo Bonsu has urged Ghanaians to stop criticising Andre Ayew for his penalty miss against Uruguay at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Al Sadd forward missed a penalty in the 21st minute as his kick was saved by Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet following a foul on Mohammed Kudus.
Uruguay went on to win the game 2-0 thanks to goals from Giorgio de Arrascaeta in the 26th and 32nd minutes of the game but it was not enough as teams went out of the tournament.
“Dede Ayew has really done well for the country looking at his achievements for the country since he joined the National Team,” Bonsu said as quoted by Pulse Ghana.
“But honestly, he is weak [not in the best shape] now, so the country should give him a good testimonial or farewell game to retire him and avoid accusing him for the penalty miss. Should we continue with this attack, it will affect the next generation.
“We have a good team, we should calm down and avoid the unnecessary insults we rain on them.”
