Workers strike in South Africa amid record job losses
Rallies have been taking place in cities across South Africa as part of a nationwide strike called by the main trade union body Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu).
Members of Cosatu marched to the National Treasury in Pretoria:
It has asked most of its members to stay at home to avoid undermining efforts to contain the coronavirus.
The strikers have various demands, including pay rises for civil servants, better protection for health workers, and an end to corruption.
South Africa has lost a record number of jobs because of the pandemic.
