An Adentan Circuit Court has sentenced a 25-year-old female launderer to an 18-month prison, for stabbing a tailor in the neck.

The convict, Ayisha Attoman, opened a deep wound on the victim’s neck with a broken bottle after a misunderstanding.

According to Chief Inspector Anim Darko, the prosecution’s lead, “The complainant, Tetteh Adzidoboh, is a tailor from ‘Abenwoha’ Adenta. Attoman also lives in the same area.”

The court heard that on June 19, 2024, Adzidoboh went to a drinking bar in Abenwoha to wait for an associate who had sewed his clothes.

Attoman arrived at the same bar with her one-and-a-half-year-old son and purchased a drink for Adzidoboh, her friend.

However, things took a different turn when Adzidoboh began playing with Attoman’s son. Attoman became enraged, attacking Adzidoboh for beating her child.

Witnesses intervened, separating the two, but Attoman stepped out of the bar and engaged Adzidoboh in a fierce fight, stabbing him in the neck.

Adzidoboh sustained injuries and was sent to the hospital for treatment.

During the interrogation, Attoman admitted to the offence.

In imposing the sentence, the court presided over by Sedinam Awo Kwadam, recognized the gravity of the injury caused but determined that Attoman was a first-time offender who pleaded guilty to the charge.

“The court has taken into consideration the fact that the accused is a first-time offender and has pleaded guilty to the charge,” said Judge Kwadam. “However, the court must also consider the severity of the injury caused to the complainant.

Attoman was charged with causing harm and pleaded guilty. Her sentence serves as a reminder that violence will not be tolerated in our communities.

The court ruled that Attoman’s one-and-a-half-year-old child be placed in the custody of her relatives and ordered the Department of Social Welfare to furnish the court with a written report on the challenges concerning Attoman’s son.
