The Tarkwa District Court has sentenced a 25-year-old unemployed woman to two months imprisonment for allegedly conspiring with her friend to steal GH¢4,600 from a small-scale miner.
The court presided over by Charles Owusu Ansah, fined the convict, Queenstabel Mintah, alias Ohemaa, GH¢1,080 or, in default, serve four additional months in prison.
She pleaded guilty to stealing and was convicted on her own plea.
Police Sergeant Douglas Addai, who is prosecuting the case, informed the court that the complainant, small-scale miner Eric Ankomah, lives in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality at Bogrekrom, while Queenstabel stays at Brahabobom.
He claimed that on November 7, 2022, at around 0430 hours, the convict and a person named Maame Yaa, who is now on the run, attacked the complainant, who was travelling through the Tarkwa Railway station.
According to Sergeant Addai, the two women successfully took GHC 4,600.00 in cash from the complainant. Both of the women then allegedly fled the area and went into hiding.
The complainant later reported the incident to the Tarkwa Police, and Queenstabel was apprehended with the assistance of the Tarkwa Police on April 11, 2023.
Sergeant Addai added that efforts were underway to apprehend the convict’s accomplice Maame Yaa.
