Woman Arrested For Attempting To Steal Two-Year-Old Baby At Mankessim
A woman alleged to be in her 50’s has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a two-year-old girl and forcing her into a margarine bucket with a tight-fitting cover at Mankessim.
According to eyewitnesses, they saw the suspect sitting quietly on a margarine rubber bucket on Thursday, October 3, behind the victim’s house.
They suspected the woman was up to something and decided to question her.
“We tried asking her questions, but she insisted on not talking to us. We intentionally ignored the suspect but were monitoring her movement,” an eyewitness narrated.
According to them, a few minutes later, they saw the woman grabbing the two-year-old girl and forcing her into the margarine bucket.
They later saw her carrying the bucket on her head, and they quickly informed the people around.
In an attempt to run away, the suspect fell into a ditch, where she was caught and handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, the mother of the victim, Janet Ampah, said she was at the house feeding her two-month-old baby when she heard her neighbours shouting for help, so she went to the scene and found out that the suspect had kidnapped her child.
“My daughter could have been stolen if not for the intervention of my neighbours,” she lamented.
It is alleged that the suspect was hired by some person(s) to steal the two-year-old girl for ritual purposes.
This is not the first time such an incident has happened in Mankessim.
There are instances people were reported missing and later found to have been kidnapped and killed.
Paramount among these situations is the kidnapping and murder of Georgina Asor Botchway.
The 25-year-old student nurse was killed and secretly buried by a chief and pastor at Mankessim.
Meanwhile, the child’s father, Kofi Essel, has called on the police to deal with the culprit after thorough investigations.
The suspect is assisting the Mankessim Divisional Police Command with the probe.
