Woman allegedly killed by boyfriend in Yesunkwa
A tragic incident has rocked the small community of Yesunkwa near Ataabadze in Ghana’s Central Region, where a 34-year-old woman, Maame Ekua Badu, was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, Jehoshaphat Adiako.
The suspect has since gone into hiding.
The incident happened on August 2, 2025, and has left residents in shock and the family of the deceased demanding swift action from the authorities.
According to her uncle, John Kofi Cobbinah, Maame Ekua had reported being abused and threatened by Adiako just weeks into their relationship.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Cobbinah said he had advised his niece to be cautious when she first introduced the man in May.
“In June, she told me he had started threatening her and that she had gone to the police. I warned him myself and he promised to meet me, but never came,” he recalled.
On the day of the incident, Mr. Cobbinah received a missed call from Maame Ekua’s phone. When he tried to return the call, the phone was answered by Adiako, who claimed she had gone to collect okro from a pastor.
Later that day, her body was discovered in a nearby bush, with signs of blunt force trauma, which the family suspects was caused by a hammer.
They rushed her to Interbeton Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. The suspect reportedly fled the area shortly after her disappearance and has not been seen since.
The case is currently under investigation by the Elmina Municipal Police Command. However, the family has raised concerns over what they describe as a slow and unsatisfactory police response.
