Withdraw ‘reckless’ Bawku chieftaincy allegations – Mamprugu Youth to Ken Agyapong
The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA), Bawku Chapter, has issued a statement urging Kennedy Agyapong and his spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, to retract their claims regarding former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia allegedly imposing a rival chief on the people of Bawku during an electoral period.
In their statement released on Thursday, September 4, the association condemned these remarks as “reckless, malicious, and dangerous,” cautioning that such allegations could exacerbate the already tense chieftaincy conflict in Bawku.
MAYA expressed concern that this allegation, initially propagated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the 2024 election campaign, is now being “shamelessly recycled” by Mr. Agyapong and his associates.
“It is disgraceful that Mr. Kennedy Agyapong and his spokesperson, who claimed to support the NPP candidate in that election, are now resurrecting the same propaganda,” the statement read.
The association underscored that the Bawku conflict should never be used as a political tool, branding such behavior as “a direct insult to the people of Bawku and the entire Mamprugu Kingdom”.
MAYA has demanded an unequivocal apology and retraction, warning that failure to comply will lead them to declare Mr. Agyapong’s campaign team persona non grata in the region.
“We will not allow any individual, no matter how highly placed, to trade the peace of Bawku for political expediency. The future of our people is far more important than the desperation of politicians,” the group stated.
The statement was signed by Seidu Awudu, President of the Bawku Chapter of MAYA, and Abdul Majeed Bagura, Secretary.
