NPP 88 seats; NDC 183 seats; 4 Independent MPs in 9th Parliament, Ablekuma North outstanding

With the disputes on outstanding parliamentary election results almost cleared by the Electoral Commission (EC) with the completion of the collation for those constituencies, and the results declared, with the exception of the Ablekuma North seat which is still outstanding, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) now has the overwhelming majority in Parliament with 183 seats.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has 88 seats. There are four independent members of Parliament-elect.

The independent MPs-elect are Ohene Kwame Frimpong for Asante Akim North, Nandaya Yaw Stanley for Wulensi, Kwame Asare Obeng, commonly known as Kwame A Plus for Gomoa Central and Worlasi Kpeli for Afram Plains North, an NDC person who contested as an independent,

Per this permutation and following the subsequent gazetting of the results, this is how the numbers will look in the 9th Parliament which begins its life on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, unless a court decision changes the status quo.

Already, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed an appeal, challenging the order by the High Court in Accra, which on Saturday asked the EC to complete and collate results for four outstanding constituencies – Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Techiman South and Ablekuma North.

The NDC is rejecting the results collated and declared by the EC on Sunday.

The party, which is one seat away from securing a two-thirds majority of 184 seats in the 9th Parliament has said it will not accept the collation and declaration of results for the four outstanding constituencies, labeling the process as “illegal and unlawful.”

According to Rashid Tanko Computer, the NDC Deputy Director of Elections and IT, the party has filed an appeal and stay of execution against the Accra High Court ruling that ordered the EC)to complete the collation of the results.

Rashid Tanko Computer speaking to the media on Sunday afternoon (Jan 5) stated that the NDC instructed its parliamentary candidates not to participate in the collation exercise, as the party is following due process.
