Why I did not speak to my mother for 7 years – Gospel musician

Gospel musician, Eric Jeshrun, has recounted a childhood experience that made him cease speaking with his parents for seven years.

“I was 15-years-old when the incident happened, and from JHS Two I never spoke to them, until I was in university-Level 200,” he said.

He said he was beaten for an offence he didn’t commit.

“We used to have this wooden chair with a cushion covered with rubber in them, so one day my mother returned from town and saw one of the rubbers torn”

“I told my mother I wasn’t the one who did it. But she insisted and promised not to beat me if I tell the truth, I didn’t do it but to avoid the beatings I told a lie that I did and she still went ahead to beat me,” he said.

Recounting how that experience affected his relationship with the mother, the ‘Yahweh singer said “I felt disappointed, unloved… in secondary school when I vacated from school, I didn’t want to come home, I preferred staying with friends or sleeping in a kiosk to going home”

“I started dreaming that my real mother was somewhere in Germany…there was a feeling of pain”

According to him, he held on to the pain until the second year in University when Dr. Lawrence Tetteh visited his school to preach about the danger of offence.

“Dr. Lawrence Tetteh was speaking to all of us and he goes ahead to hit me with a book and says there are some of you like you standing here, you have issues with your mum…I don’t know if he knew he was prophesying but I broke down and let it go” he recounted.

According to the ‘Yahweh Victory chant’ hitmaker, he felt a great sense of relief after he let go of the grudge.

“I want to tell somebody who is still holding on to things of the past to let go because sometimes you don’t have to be wrong to be punished,” he told Asaase Radio monitored by theghanareport.com

Jeshrun is the convener of one of Ghana biggest worship gatherings, ‘August Worship’.
