Where is our ESLA revenue? — Terkper asks government

Former Finance Minister, Seth Terkper, has stated that the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration will manage energy sector levies more effectively than the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

He criticized the current administration for its failure to account for revenue generated from the Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA).

“We will manage energy sector levies (ESLA) better when we come back. Monies accrued from ESLA cannot be accounted for by this government even though it’s meant for settling debts within the sector,” he mentioned.

Mr. Terkper also promised that the next NDC administration would thoroughly investigate the collapse of local banks during the financial sector clean-up.

He emphasized the need for this investigation due to the significant loss of customer funds during the process.

“We will investigate the collapse of the said banks because people have lost their savings. Lessons must be learned from this experience,” he said on Hot Issues on TV3.

Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, former President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to restore the licenses of banks that were unjustly revoked during the financial sector clean-up.

Additionally, he promises to rationalize port fees and implement measures to address the Cedi’s decline against the Dollar.

He made these commitments while launching the NDC manifesto on Saturday, August 24, in Winneba.

“We will rationalize port fees and charges, and measures to stabilize the cedi and macroeconomic environment,” the former President stressed.
