What happened belongs to the past; we are satisfied with Adwoa Safo – NPP
The General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has reiterated that the party is satisfied with the current performance of Sarah Adwoa Safo after she went awol for several months.
Mr. Frimpong explained that the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya has genuinely apologized to the party, and she is working hard currently as the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency.
He added that what happened between Sarah Adwoa Safo and the party belongs to the past since she duly apologized for that.
“Yes, issues happened in the past, and she came back to apologize to the party and now I can tell you that she is doing her work as Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya”.
“So, so far as the party is concerned now, currently, we are satisfied with what she is doing as a Member of Parliament for her constituency”, the NPP General Secretary noted in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report on TV3 on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
Adwoa Safo’s extended absence from parliament in 2022 stirred significant controversy. She left the country in November 2021 and failed to appear before the Privileges Committee on several occasions when summoned to explain her absence.
The committee eventually recommended that her seat be declared vacant, but the Speaker of Parliament ruled that the report was not final and must be presented to the entire House for a decision. This caused disagreement within parliament.
Adwoa Safo recently issued an apology to the President and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the controversies she caused during her extended absence from parliamentary duties.
According to the general secretary, “everything” is fine between the NPP and the former Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
But he insists the delegates will have the final say in February 2024.
“The issues that happened belong to the past, but at the end of the day, the party will have internal elections, so it is up to the constituents in her constituency to decide”.
