We’ve not been contracted to undertake any fumigation exercise – Zoomlion
The management of Zoomlion Ghana Limited has dismissed reports suggesting that the company had been contracted to carry out fumigation activities in flood-affected communities.
It will be recalled that initial reports indicated that Zoomlion was tasked by the Volta River Authority (VRA) to disinfect and fumigate the areas affected by the Akosombo dam spillage.
However, the management of Zoomlion has refuted these reports in a statement, describing them as misleading and baseless.
“Management categorically refutes this misleading, false, and unfounded assertion by one Manasseh Azure Awuni, who has, for the past 10 years, sought to level various allegations against Zoomlion to no avail. This recent publication is a demonstration of Manasseh’s clear disregard for journalistic integrity and professional ethics as is expected of a person of his calibre”.
“We want to emphasize that Zoomlion has not been contracted by VRA to undertake any fumigation activities in the said affected areas, as claimed by Mr. Awuni. His allegations are baseless and lack any factual basis,” as stated in the statement.
Zoomlion further assured the populace that they remain committed to upholding corporate social responsibility and providing steadfast support to the communities in the Volta Region.
Management explained that during its visit to the affected areas on Monday, October 23, Zoomlion offered to fumigate the areas in addition to the over 500,000 cedis relief items provided to the victims of the spillage.
Meanwhile, the Volta River Authority has also corroborated Zoomlion’s assertion in a separate statement.
Below is a statement to that effect.
