Western Region Chief Imam Reported Dead

The Western Region Chief Imam, Sheikh Mohammad Sani Abdullahi Bawa, has died aged 74.

Reports indicate that the 74-year-old Chief Imam visited his family in Kumasi and had a slight domestic accident.

He was descending the home stairs when he fell and became sick afterwards.

A few days later, he returned to the Western Region after regaining fitness.

He, however, fell ill again and was rushed to the Effiankwanta Regional Hospital, but he could not survive and died.

The Western Region Chief Imam was installed on 21st May 2022 and died on Thursday, 22nd September 2022.

He was buried on Friday, 23rd September 2022, according to Islamic practice.

He replaced Chief Imam Sheikh Ustaz Dr. Ali Hassan Ali, who died after occupying the position for some years.

“Sheikh Alhaji Mohammad Sani Abdullahi Bawa was a proponent of peace and unity in the Western Region during his four-month reign,” Alhaji Kamal, the special aide to the late Imam, said in an interview with Connect FM.

“He was one time a goalkeeper for Eleven Wise and the Ghana Black stars. He was popularly known as Sani”.
