”We’re Working To Resolve Colleges Of Education Feeding Concerns” – Education Ministry

The Ministry of Education has assured that it is working swiftly with other stakeholders to resolve feeding concerns raised by the Colleges of Education.

The ministry’s Public Relations Officer Kwasi Kwarteng in a post said advanced measures have been taken to meet outstanding financial obligations due the Colleges of Education to help fend for trainee teachers.

The assurance comes on the back of a letter by the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) seeking to let students cater for themselves from November 7.

A letter from PRINCOF to the Ministry of Education said the request was informed by the debts owed to suppliers of food.

“Prices of all food items have shot up astronomically, and food suppliers have refused to supply any food items to Colleges because of the indebtedness of Colleges to these suppliers,” the letter said.

They added that a request for an increase in feeding grants paid to schools has also not been approved.

“It has become increasingly difficult for Principals to continue to provide three meals a day to students at Six Cedis, Fifty Pesewas (GHC6.50),” it added.

But the ministry believes all the said challenges will soon be put to rest.
