We’re ready for Akwatia by-election today – EC

The Electoral Commission says they are ready for the anticipated Akwatia by-election scheduled for today, Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

According to the Eastern Regional Director, John Appiah Baffoe, the Commission has delivered all the appropriate equipment and necessary materials, such as verification devices, which would be used for the election.

The Commission has trained and deployed 484 electoral officers to all 119 polling stations across the constituency.

Addressing the media, Baffoe stressed that the Commission is fully prepared for a smooth process today.

“The commission is ready. We’ve gotten all the materials that we need for the election. The ballot papers, we have received them, and we have packed them. The BVDs, the registers and all other materials are ready. So we are ready for tomorrow, for the distribution of the election to commence at 7am. When it comes to our election officials, we have recruited 484 election officials,” he said.

Mr Baffoe further expressed profound gratitude to the police for their support and warned party sympathisers from other constituencies who are in Akwatia not to disrupt the electoral process.

A total of 52,328 residents in the Akwatia constituency are expected to partake in today’s by-election.

This by-election has become necessary due to the passing of the incumbent MP, Ernest Kumi.
