We’re not beggars, refund our monies now!- Investors resume Finance Ministry protests
The Locked-up Investment Holders Forum (LIHF) on Wednesday (May 15, 2024), resumed their picketing at the Finance Ministry.
The move is to pressure the ministry to allocate funds for the Bank of Ghana to revoke the license of insolvent finance houses and pay depositors their funds.
The convener of the forum, Dr Adu A. Antwi, reiterated their resolve to protest every Wednesday to drum home their message.
“Today is the real picketing. We are doing this because when we came here on March 27, 2024, and we didn’t meet the minister, we then sent the minister a petition on March 28, to say that we had been to the Bank of Ghana and the central bank said it is prepared to revoke the licences of these insolvent institutions and pay us our deposits.
“However, they need financing arrangements with the Ministry of Finance to make financial provisions so that they can invoke the licences and pay us our deposits just as it was done in 2017 and 2018. So, that was the conversation we wanted to have with the minister.
“For three weeks, we didn’t receive any response from the minister. We then sent another reminder on April 18, but no positive response. We intend to picket every Wednesday till the end of November 2024. We won’t picket in December because it is an election month and Christmas but we will resume the picketing after the new year if our concerns are not addressed,” Dr Antwi said.
It will be recalled that the group began engaging with the central bank a year ago to help them redeem their investments from the financial houses and savings and loan companies.
They held placards with the inscription; government protect depositors as you have assured, Ministry of Finance don’t fail depositors, Ministry of Finance work to restore confidence in the financial market, we are not beggars we are demanding our investment, among others.
