Wendy Shay angry with FDA over ban on celebrity advertising alcoholic beverages; FDA responds
Rufftown records signee, Wendy Shay, is angry with the Foods and Drugs Authority (FDA) for making her lose a deal worth thousands of dollars to advertise an alcoholic beverage.
According to her, she had no idea celebrities could not advertise alcoholic beverages in Ghana and that the ban was ‘taking food from their mouths.”
She took to her social media handle to vent her frustration “I just lost a deal worth 1000s ‘of dollars with this foreign alcohol company. I didn’t know in GH Celebrities can’t advertise for alcoholic beverages according to the FDA. Like Seriously?! Small food we go chop too u wan take 4rm our mouth. In 2015, the FDA, as part of efforts to ensure minors are protected from alcoholism, banned Ghanaian celebrities from advertising alcoholic beverages in adherence to a World Health Organization (WHO) policy.
Well, the Authority has responded to the ‘Kut it’ hitmaker’s concern.
“Dear @wendyshaygh, the guidelines on the advertisement of food states clearly that no well-known personality or professional shall be used in alcoholic beverage advertising,” FDA replied to her tweet.
