We’ll soon retrieve all missing excavators – Minister assures

The Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, has given the strongest indication that the government will soon find all seized-missing excavators.

He said all security agencies had joined the chase to retrieve the missing excavators.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng had, in a radio interview, revealed that the over 500 seized excavators from illegal miners could no longer be found.

Following this revelation, the sector minister has come under a barrage of criticism. But he told the media on Thursday that all the missing heavy-duty equipment would soon be found.

Some top government officials, including Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, stand accused of being neck-deep in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

The Environment minister’s son, Joojo Frimpong-Boateng, has also been accused of using some of the missing excavators in the country’s forest reserves.

But the minister jumped to the defence of his son, rubbishing the allegations. According to him, those claims were false.

“He [Jojo Frimpong-Boateng] is not involved in anything, and the world will get to know soon,” the Minister said.

Six persons have been arrested and are assisting the police in investigations over the missing machines.

Those arrested include First Vice-Chairman of the governing NPP in the Central Region, Horace Ekow Ewusi.

All the six have, however, been granted bail.
